Field Machining & Repair of the Bucket to Stick Bores on a Huge Loader Bucket
A client in an open pit gold mine commissioned Denver Machine Shop to repair the worn out bores on their giant bucket loader. This was the perfect scenario to utilize our portable hydraulic boring machine, the 3-½” x 16′ Climax Boring Bar. After a thorough inspection, we used carbon steel to perform a weld build-up on the worn down bores, and used the Boring Bar to machine the bores to accurate diameter and the bore faces to accurate width holding the specifications of the OEM. Two separate bores were finished, in line, measuring 10′ apart with a 10″ finished diameter and surface finish of 125 RMS. Tolerance of ±0.001″ was maintained over the span. Dimensional inspection, fitment, and functionality testing were performed to assure accuracy.
The required 660 bronze bushings were machined at our facility, with tolerances of ±0.0005″ held throughout. The bushings were transported to the site and installed into the machined bores. This was a 24/7 operation in order to ensure timely startup of the customer’s operation . Denver Machine Shop has the ability to repair, replace, or re-create equipment to client specifications, with rapid turnaround times. We adhere to the rigorous quality standards set by top industry organizations.
